After spending more than 20 years working as a digital marketer, I've seen it all when it comes to online marketing. Some tactics work better than others – but what works consistently well is connecting with other people through social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, etc… LinkedIn has been one of those platforms that's given me consistent results over time.

It’s not only great for connecting with potential clients or colleagues, but also allows you to meet new influencers who may be able to help you grow your brand by sharing their expertise or resources. And if they don't know you yet, there's always the possibility that they will eventually find out about you (or vice versa) and create some kind of connection between you!

In this article I want to share with you everything I've learned from experience so far about mastering LinkedIn for marketing purposes. In fact, let me tell you right now that I'm going to give away the entire guide to creating a killer LinkedIn profile and growing your network using this platform. Here we go...

What is the best way to make connections on LinkedIn?

There are many different methods you could use to engage with people on LinkedIn. The most obvious method would be to send them messages asking for advice or feedback, which is exactly where I started back when I joined the platform almost 10 years ago. But then again, I was just starting out myself at that point, and didn't really understand how much value these types of interactions actually had.

Nowadays, however, things have changed quite drastically. There are plenty of tools available to help you get noticed quickly, including Buffer, Hootsuite, and TweetDeck. These services allow you to schedule posts ahead of time, set up alerts to notify you whenever someone mentions you, and track every single interaction you receive. This means you'll never miss another opportunity to reach out and interact with someone on LinkedIn ever again.

What are several strategies for building an effective network using LinkedIn?

If you're looking to develop a strong presence on LinkedIn, here are four simple tips to keep in mind:

1. Start regularly updating your status updates with valuable information. You need to show your audience that you care enough about yourself to provide regular details about your life, goals, and projects. People love hearing stories from successful entrepreneurs because they often inspire us to follow suit. If you do something cool each week, say it!

2. Share interesting articles about topics related to your industry. Just like any good blogger, you should try to curate useful links that relate directly to your niche and offer fresh perspectives. It doesn't matter whether you publish your curated list in a blog post or simply mention relevant articles in your status update - either way, you'll gain exposure to a wider audience.

3. Join groups that match your interests. Groups are essentially communities within LinkedIn, and they serve as excellent places to learn from experts in your field while meeting like-minded individuals interested in similar subjects. Most users appreciate comments and will respond promptly. So don't worry too much about following certain rules such as "only" responding to questions asked by members of your community. Try to focus on providing genuine helpful responses and engaging with your fellow LinkedIners instead.

What are the 3 ways to build your network with LinkedIn?

When it comes to networking on LinkedIn, there are basically two main approaches:

1. Building relationships with people outside of your company/industry.

This is typically done by reaching out to people based on commonalities shared across industries. For instance, if you were trying to expand into healthcare, perhaps you'd look for professionals in the pharmaceutical or medical field to befriend.

You might consider sending emails to doctors, nurses, pharmacists, surgeons, etc., asking them to introduce you to their peers who would be willing to speak highly of you. Or maybe you'd ask your existing client base to recommend you to anyone else with whom they've worked previously.

The key thing to remember is that you shouldn't be focusing on making friends with everyone you come across on LinkedIn. Instead, your goal should be finding at least 1 person per day who's likely to become your friend, colleague, or mentor. That said, having lots of contacts doesn't mean you won't run into anyone worth talking to. My recommendation would be to spend a few minutes reading through the recommendations on each member's page and see who jumps out at you as potentially worthwhile to add to your network.

2. Connecting with people inside your organization.

While you shouldn't expect to connect with everyone in your team simply by virtue of being employed there, there are usually opportunities to cross paths with people you haven't met before. For example, if you work in IT support, chances are you'll encounter a lot of folks who work elsewhere in your office building. By getting to know them, you'll soon discover that you have common acquaintances or friends outside of your workplace, which opens doors to further conversations down the road.

Also, if you happen to be part of a larger corporation, you might find that your manager knows somebody whose job description overlaps yours. Chances are he or she will know how to approach the appropriate human resource department to obtain permission for you to talk to that individual.

As for building your internal network, there are several easy ways to accomplish this task. First off, you should aim to send weekly email newsletters to your employees highlighting newsworthy items from around the web. Also, if you work remotely, you can encourage your boss to join your Slack channel or Google Hangouts Meet group and participate actively in discussions. Finally, you could organize a monthly lunchtime event where you invite coworkers to gather together and chat about anything under the sun.

What three steps can you take to start to build your professional relationship on LinkedIn?

Here are three important actions you can take immediately upon signing up for LinkedIn:

1. Create a custom URL shortener link to redirect visitors to your landing pages:

A quick tip: When you sign up for LinkedIn, you automatically receive a customized URL shortener link that includes your name and domain name. However, you probably wouldn't want to direct traffic to this link because it looks pretty bad. To fix this problem, click on Settings & Privacy then Edit Profile & Links. From there, click Add Shortened Link & Copy Button next to the Customized Shortener Link text box. Now paste the shortened version of your website address into the field below. Click Save Changes. Your custom redirect URL will appear in blue underneath the default redirect URL that appears after clicking View Website.

2. Set up automated posting reminders:

Once you've created your custom redirect URL, you can customize its settings to trigger automatic posts at specific times throughout the day. Go to your Account Settings & Preferences page, select Email Notifications, then scroll down until you find Schedule Postings. Under Schedule Posts, enter the amount of days you wish to wait before triggering a series of scheduled posts. Next, choose the time(s) you prefer for these posts to occur during the day, along with the frequency. Lastly, check Enable Scheduled Posts. Then save changes and close the window.

3. Send personalized welcome emails:

Your subscribers will appreciate receiving a friendly note thanking them for taking action by visiting your site, while reminding them of upcoming events. Simply log in to your account and click on Messages & Invitations. On the dropdown menu, choose New Message. Select Welcome Letter Template & Choose One from the template gallery. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Next Step. Enter the subject line and message text. Make sure you include a call to action stating why your readers should visit your site. Then hit Preview & Publish.

Regardless of whether you're completely new to LinkedIn or if you're a seasoned pro, follow these tips to ensure you look your best.

Keep your bio brief. A few sentences describing who you are and what you do will suffice. People won't spend time reading your entire biography, so only include essential details such as your current position, education level and any special qualifications.

Use keywords wisely. Using key terms in your headline and summary helps potential employers search for you online.
