This happens whenever you join a company's group or participate in discussions. When asked to confirm your identity, sometimes people forget to check the ‘Notify me of follow-up emails’ box. As soon as this is unchecked, LinkedIn sends you an invitation regardless of whether you ever signed up for it or not.

Alternatively, you can block specific people rather than opting out completely. Head to Settings " Security and privacy " Block People. Then enter the name of the person you wish to block in the search bar and select Remove Block. From here, you can also manage your blocked contacts' visibility by clicking Manage Visibility.

Another option is to unsubscribe from LinkedIn entirely. Go to Settings " Subscriptions " Unsubscribe, confirm your intent, and hit Confirm. Once complete, you'll no longer receive notifications from LinkedIn.

A quick word of advice though – it's better to do this offline before uploading anything to your computer. Otherwise, you risk losing your data due to a corrupted hard drive.

To download your LinkedIn contacts in Excel, follow these steps:

Head back to LinkedIn and login again.

Click Account " Profile.

Next, click Advanced settings " Export.

Select Save to Desktop and choose Save.

Now, drag and drop the downloaded file into Microsoft Excel.

Finally, switch to Data tab and sort the column headers according to First Name, Last Name, Job Title, Department, Location, Phone Number, Website, and E-Mail Address.

Instead, you can use a simple trick to grab names and phone numbers from LinkedIn. Just hover over each user's picture until you spot the little number icon. Right click and hold down Shift + Ctrl keys simultaneously. Doing this opens up the context menu. Choose More Options and click View Image Info.

From here, you can click Details to reveal additional information, such as the individual's title and location. Alternatively, you can scroll down to the bottom of the window to see their picture and bio.
