How do you write a good prospecting email?

If you want them to sign up for something from your opt-in list, you need to get straight into people's minds right away. The best way to start off is writing a personal introduction letter to your reader (whoever opens your email). This should give them a hint about who you are and why they might find this particular piece useful.

Also add a call to action towards the end of the email so that your readers know exactly where you would like them to go next after reading your email. You could ask them to leave their names and/or contact information at the bottom for future communication. Some other ideas include asking them to subscribe to your mailing list, download a free report or join your affiliate program.

Avoid using fancy fonts, especially script or cursive. These types of fonts may look cool and sophisticated, but it takes much longer to read. And chances are people aren't going to open your email to check out the new fonts anyway. Use standard fonts such as Verdana or Arial.

Keep paragraphs short and crisp. There is no point in wasting space with unnecessary details. Limit each paragraph to 4 lines maximum. People tend to skim down emails quickly nowadays, so don't waste spaces with useless info.

Use bullets points whenever possible. Bullet points break lengthy sentences and emphasize important keywords. That said, there's nothing wrong with using full sentences sometimes. Just stick to 1 bullet point per sentence max.

Limit images. Similar to the previous point, limiting images adds clarity to your message. Don't overload your emails with tons of distracting imagery. Keep it clean and professional looking.

Be consistent. Consistency means having similar formatting throughout your entire email campaign. Use the same color scheme and font style wherever possible.

Include links. Make sure your links work properly and don't misspell them. Links come in handy during SEO campaigns and they make your emails easier to navigate. Avoid linking directly to your own pages though since search engines view this negatively. Instead link back to your home page or another relevant internal URL.

Test everything thoroughly. Test everything, even if you feel confident that it works perfectly. Nothing beats testing early prototypes to ensure everything looks okay. In addition, test whether the links actually lead anywhere and whether the messages were received correctly.

Always proofread carefully. Proofreading ensures accuracy. Errors in grammar and punctuation detract from your credibility and professionalism, so double check your email before hitting Send!

How do I approach a prospect for the first time?

So, I created a competition called "Blog Of A Week" which gave participants a prize draw consisting of gift vouchers valued at £200. The winner was chosen randomly based on a raffle ticket number drawn from a hat after the contest had closed. More specifically, the winners were selected from the top 100 entries that got the highest amount of likes on Facebook.

I managed to reach my goal easily, simply by driving traffic to my blog consistently. Many of these highly engaged users became repeat buyers, thus increasing overall profits. What's more, I gained hundreds of new fans and subscribers without spending a dime on advertising. Now, that's a return on investment!

Or you can set up autoresponders that will automatically respond back to each person once per day. This makes sure that each subscriber doesn't get bombarded with messages during peak times.

Another option would be to partner up with another company whose own primary focus isn't selling. Use powerful words such as FREE, NEW, UPDATED, SAVED, BIGGEST PROBLEM SOLUTION EVER!, MOST IMPORTANT IN YEARS! And remember to test different headlines until you come across something that works better. Also, never underestimate the power of humor. Be funny without being offensive. People love jokes. They laugh and feel comfortable with you. So start off lighthearted and end strong. Here are three sample headlines I came up with for my newsletter:

Giveaway an eBook. Offer a special report or e-book that gives your readers value for their money. You can give away something useful such as DIY instructions, recipes, videos, audio files, PDF documents, infographics, etc. Make sure however that what you've given away provides enough worth for others' consideration. In other words, the giveaway item(s) shouldn't be crap. And make sure to tell your readers exactly what's inside the package. What's the price? Is there a deadline? Can they qualify to win it?

Send updates. Share interesting stories, quotes, articles, pictures, videos, podcasts, etc. that relate to your message. Readers appreciate content that entertains AND informs them. Keep it short and sweet. Don't go overboard. Just share relevant pieces of info that support your main point. Don't worry if you run low on ideas sometimes - that's normal since no two days are alike.

Tell us how you really feel. Most entrepreneurs tend to think that sharing personal experiences is tacky and unnecessary. However, studies show that people resonate with things that happen to them personally as opposed to reading fiction books. Write down honest anecdotes related to your field of expertise and post them onto social media sites like Facebook. When you see something that interests you, click and read it. See what else you can dig up about it yourself. Soon, you'll become an expert in your area of profession. Think about it - wouldn't you prefer learning something from somebody actually experiencing it firsthand versus getting theoretical explanations from textbooks and lectures?

Get testimonials and endorsements. Showcase success stories of satisfied past customers. Ask permission from those happy folks beforehand and ask them to leave a comment on your blog or website. Include your customer's full names and photos along with their comments. As soon as possible, publish testimonial posts or pages on your site showing gratitude toward your loyal followers. For instance, if you're promoting a book about making homemade crafts, you could say something like, "This book shows you how to turn old newspapers, magazines, fabric scraps, buttons, beads, dried flowers, recycled materials, etc., into fun and unique gifts."

Remember to add emotional triggers that appeal to human nature to gain immediate results. One great way to do this is by asking questions. Questions can evoke feelings within your reader. Try saying something like, "Dear [Name]..." followed by a question pertaining to her needs and desires. At the same time, avoid coming across as cheesy or shallow. Remember that your goal is to establish trust and rapport with your clientele.

If you're looking to promote a new line of clothes, you could say something similar to this: "Hi [Name], We know you care about fashion trends. Wouldn't you agree that having a wardrobe filled with chic outfits helps you look classy, polished, and stylish?"

You can also mention recent events that occurred around your business. For example, if you're offering consultation services, you could say, "I understand how frustrating it can be when people aren't able to solve problems easily. Have you had trouble finding answers to common questions lately?"

Also, remember to highlight benefits, features, guarantees, discounts, and bonuses. Explain exactly what the recipient is going to get out of buying your product or subscribing to your newsletter.

When crafting your email, keep it conversational. Avoid formal language and jargon. Instead, speak plainly and slowly. Speak in terms of solutions rather than problems. Take extra precaution not to sound condescending or overly harsh. Be nice and friendly without compromising professionalism.

It's okay to occasionally sprinkle in little surprises to spice up your correspondence. For instance, you could tell your subscriber that you recently found a cool video clip he'd probably enjoy watching. By doing this, you create anticipation and excitement among your contacts. Plus, it builds loyalty.

Keep your sentences clear and straightforward. Present facts clearly and accurately. Leave out fluff and irrelevant details. Focus on what matters most to your sender or receiver.

Try to answer all inquiries posed by your recipients. If you fail to reply, chances are high that they won't return your call. On the other hand, if you keep ignoring their queries, eventually they'll stop returning your calls altogether.

Don't jump ahead to the next step until your recipient responds correctly to your initial request. If necessary, wait patiently and politely. Once again, repeat your inquiry only if they didn't answer satisfactorily earlier.

Don't harass your contacts either. Sometimes, people get annoyed when contacted repeatedly. If you suspect that yours is one of those annoying cases, wait 48 hours before resending your message. Otherwise, you risk losing credibility and respect.

Ask for feedback often. Find out what your prospects liked about the contents of your latest newsletter and what areas they'd like improvements on. Find out if they received any value from what they bought from you. Inquire if they plan on purchasing something in the future.

Lastly, refrain from spamming. Spam filters are becoming increasingly sophisticated and effective. Even worse, spammers can track your IP address and trace your location. Therefore, it's advisable to limit your outgoing emails to one daily maximum.
