Why has my email suddenly stopped working?

Why has my email suddenly stopped working?

I've been trying to send an important message via email for the last few hours and it keeps getting stuck on "waiting."

The problem is that my Apple Mail app says "Offline," which means there's no way for me to access any messages that have arrived in my inbox — even though they're sitting right here waiting to be read!

So what gives? Is this some kind of obscure technical issue with Apple's servers or something more sinister going on behind-the-scenes? And how can I resolve this so I'm able to check all those new messages without delay?

Thanks very much for taking the time to help out!

It sounds like you’ve got yourself into a predicament where the Messages app sends you notifications about incoming email but then doesn't actually deliver them to your computer desktop (or mobile device) until later times when you try to open up the app itself. This happens because iOS restricts the amount of memory available to store these types of files. The reason for doing so is to protect against malicious software applications attempting to take advantage of system resources by downloading large attachments from unknown sources. In order to view such files, the OS would need permission from your device owner, usually determined through user login information provided during setup. Since iOS only allows email clients to download small amounts of data at a time, if you were receiving large attachments, certain parts of the file could potentially hang around on your phone for days before being fully downloaded. As a result, the Messages application won't show you the contents of these long downloads until after everything is completely downloaded and installed onto your phone. You may also see other problems occur as well, like the ability to initiate calls and text messages quickly dropping off due to insufficient free space on the device. If you continue to experience issues accessing your mailbox, we recommend checking out our support article outlining troubleshooting tips for resolving similar error codes on Windows Phone 7 devices.

If you want to stop receiving notification alerts about new emails, just head over to Settings & Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Fetch New Data under iCloud Preferences tab. Set 'Fetch Email Address' to Manually instead of Automatically. Then go ahead and delete your old account info from System Preferences - Internet Accounts panel.

To answer your question regarding sending email from ios 6, make sure to set your account preferences to manual fetch rather than automatic fetch. Also ensure that you don't have too many spam filters enabled that will block all your mails from arriving. Make sure that your Gmail server address is correct and that you haven't changed it since setting up your account. It should look something like outlook.live.com

For Outlook users, it seems that your Exchange Server requires SSL encryption. To enable it, navigate to Start -" Control Panel -" Ease of Access Center -" Security Options -" Mail Flow Management -" Advanced Features menu item. Underneath Password Encryption section select Enable Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Click OK button. Now restart your PC. When you log back in, click on security icon located on top left corner of window. Select Change Active Protection Provider and choose Microsoft eTrust Sender ID. Finally enter your password and click Save Changes. Check whether your problem persists now. For additional assistance, please refer to following link : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=945349

Hello, firstly let us know if you still having the same issue. Secondly, did you change your internet provider recently? Thirdly, did you install any updates lately? Try uninstalling any recent updates that you may have installed. Fourthly, reboot your router once or twice and see if it helps. Lastly, try opening Safari browser on another laptop or pc and attempt to retrieve the email using IMAP protocol. See if you get the same result. If yes, then most likely your ISP blocks the port 25 and hence preventing you from retrieving the emails. Please contact your internet service provider to find out if it's true or not. Or alternatively, disable firewall on one of your computers.

i had the same issue.. mine was caused by two different things... 1st thing was that i wasn't paying attention while signing into my gmail account and accidentally deleted 2nd half of my email signature. i didn't notice this till later when i tried logging into imap and saw the rest of the signatures gone. luckily i saved the part i missed beforehand.

2nd thing was that someone else used their apple id to sign into my macbook pro and sent me an email saying he couldn't reach his mail anymore. i think this made sense considering that he lives abroad, and he uses yahoo mail. anyway, i logged him out, checked my mail client again, noticed i still hadn't received anything, went to work and found his email waiting for me in the outbox.

Hi, I believe you must have disabled IMAP on your Mac. There are several ways to re-enable IMAP: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2033961… However, disabling IMAP is quite common among Mac owners who use Google Apps. Most people simply forget to turn it back on after testing it for a short period of time.

You can always test if turning on IMAP fixes the problem by creating a dummy.mbox file named ".imessages". Once done, create a folder titled "Mail", drag the newly created.mbox file inside the said folder and hit Enter. Your Mac should automatically launch Mail app and display the contents of the newly added.mbox file. If it works fine, then you probably turned on IMAP by accident.

As far as I understand, you're experiencing a temporary network glitch. Restarting your Wi-Fi connection (router/modem), rebooting your modem and even your smartphone should fix that. Alternatively, you can plug your iPhone directly into the wall socket and bypass your Wi-fi altogether. That should definitely solve the issue.

Have you tried manually changing the delivery options to No Automatic Downloads? Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Account Information. Scroll down and tap Delivery Method. By default, it sets to Download Immediately. From there, you can either keep the original option, or mark it to No Automatic Downloads.

In addition to that, you can follow the steps mentioned below to reset your Network Configuration.

Go to System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall Preference pane > General Tab. Here, scroll down to IPv4 Settings and double-click on Protocols. Select both TCP and UDP protocols. Then press Delete key and click Ok. Now repeat the process above to add the missing IPV6 addresses. Repeat step 5 again.

Now, restart your Mac.

Restart your iPhone. If applicable, remove SIM card and wait 30 seconds. Insert SIM card again and wait for iTunes to scan local contacts. Wait for your iPhone screen to appear. Connect your iPhone to iTunes. Open Finder, connect USB cable, hold Option + Cmd keys simultaneously and click Restore Backup Tool. Choose iPhone backup and wait for sync to complete. After successful restore, check if the problem persists.

Try connecting your iPhone to another Wi-fi source. If the problem persists, disconnect your current Wi-fi source and reconnect it. Turn on Airplane Mode on your iPhone temporarily to rule out any possible interference. Keep repeating these simple steps until the problem subsides.

After making progress, close the affected apps one by one. Close unnecessary background processes running on the CPU. Reinstall updated versions of relevant third party apps. Update your operating systems. Maybe, you'll encounter an unrelated issue. Contact Apple Support for further assistance.

This happened to me too. My solution was deleting the cache files in /Library/Caches/. But, this isn't really ideal given that it takes awhile to clear out the cache.

Another solution, especially if you use Apple Mail on multiple machines, is enabling POP3 on your accounts. You can enable POP3 by heading to the bottom of your main Apple Mail page and clicking on Configure Notifications. Next, you'll see a box pop up asking you to confirm that you'd like to configure your account to accept remote connections. Click Yes and proceed forward. You'll next be asked to type in the username and password you wish to use. Type in whatever name you wish, followed by @yourdomainname.com. Hit Return and you're good to go. Just remember that if you ever change your domain name, you'll need to reconfigure this method.

One final suggestion, maybe worth trying—if you're connected to a VPN, try removing the VPN profile and seeing if this resolves the problem.

Here's a quick tip for you.

Check your spam filter settings. Spam filters sometimes block emails from particular domains or IP ranges. These rules often come from various anti virus programs. Sometimes when you move countries, ISPs in your new country may block emails coming from your previous ones.

I am pretty sure it is blocked by the SPAM filtering feature. So, you can switch off the SPAM Filtering on Yahoo by going to Setting-"Privacy and Safety-"Spam Filter-"Turn Off.

When Apple announced iOS 15 and Mail in early 2021, it was clear that the company wanted to make changes on both sides of its two most popular apps for one reason only—to provide users with an easier way to use their devices without having to dig through menus or change options every time they want something done.

With this new design philosophy, Apple's engineers have taken some features from other products like macOS and iPadOS and implemented them into the Mail app itself so there would be less steps required when using these applications. One such example is how notifications will now appear right below each message instead of at the top as before. This allows us to see more information about our messages while also keeping things tidy by not interrupting what we're doing at the moment.

Another feature that will help people read their emails quicker is that Apple said it's going to increase performance across all platforms. When Apple says "performance," however, it means faster load times and smoother experiences overall. It doesn't necessarily mean that your device won't crash anymore, but if you experience any lag between opening up your inbox and seeing newly arrived messages on your screen, then chances are good that could be fixed with a simple update.

But sometimes even though everything looks fine, your phone may still refuse to send or receive emails because of issues within its core software. Let's take a look at three potential explanations for why your email isn't working.

How do I fix my email not working?

If you've tried searching online for answers to this question, you'll likely find many solutions that suggest changing your security settings. These fixes often involve turning off Find My iPhone/iPad, deleting duplicate accounts, and resetting your password. But none of those should affect whether or not your email works properly. If anything, they should just improve your privacy and add extra layers of protection against unauthorized access to your data.

While none of these tips should cause an issue with sending or receiving emails, there are also ways to try troubleshooting this problem yourself. Here are a few suggestions:

Check your internet connection: Sometimes, problems related to receiving emails occur due to poor network connectivity. Try restarting your router and checking your Wi-Fi signal strength to ensure that nothing is wrong with either side of the conversation. You can test this by downloading an image file onto another device and uploading it back to your iPhone via the Photos app (or whatever service you used). If the download takes too long, upload speeds aren't strong enough, or you don't see the uploaded picture after trying several different times, it's likely a bad connection.

Restart your Mac: In case your issue stems from your computer rather than your iPhone, restarting your machine should eliminate temporary glitches. Also, keep in mind that this tip applies specifically to MacBooks. There are no guarantees that it will resolve your issue, but it's worth a shot. After rebooting, check out these important links to learn more about troubleshooting common Mac problems.

Remove background activity: Background processes can cause slowdowns in system speed and, thus, hinder various functions on your device. To rule out this possibility, simply go to Settings " General " Background App Refresh and turn it Off. While you're here, you can also delete unused apps and optimize storage usage to free up space. Finally, if you haven't already, enable Do Not Disturb Mode so you won't accidentally miss calls or texts.

Keep in mind that disabling automatic updates or iCloud backups could result in lost photos, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, documents, and other files stored locally on your device. So, if you decide to proceed with this step, make sure you back up your device manually once per week to prevent further mishaps down the line.

Reinstall iOS: The last resort option is completely wiping your device clean and reinstalling the operating system. That's because your entire user account —including preferences, passwords, and other personal info —is tied directly to your iPhone. By doing this, you'll erase all traces of old crumbs left behind over time. However, backing up your iPhone first ensures that you can restore your data later if needed.

After you finish the process, follow Apple's instructions to set up your new iPhone. Once you're finished setting up your device, open Messages and tap Send & Receive. Then select Open Email Preferences and choose Compose Message. From here, scroll down until you spot Troubleshoot " Connectivity Issues " Check For New Software Updates. Tap Download Now and wait patiently while the latest version gets installed. Afterwards, head back to the main page and repeat the same procedure outlined above for testing your internet connection.

If you continue to encounter trouble after following all of these recommendations, contact customer support. They'll need to know exactly which specific actions led to your malfunctioning email.

Why did my email suddenly stop working?

Sometimes, the source of the issue lies elsewhere. Maybe someone else accessed your account recently, or maybe malware caused your device to become unresponsive. Luckily, there are a couple of quick tests you can run to narrow down possibilities.

First, try logging into your Gmail account on another browser. If this resolves the problem, it's probably a glitch with Safari. Otherwise, give this next suggestion a whirl. Go to icloud.com/fix and click Relaunch Your Device. If that fails to solve the issue, try signing out of your current session and relaunching your iPhone. This should refresh your login credentials. And if that doesn't work, you should consider contacting Apple Support.

How can I get my email to work again?

Unfortunately, fixing bugs in third-party applications like Gmail is difficult unless developers themselves report them. But since they rarely ever do, it's pretty much impossible to determine where the error originated. Most likely, the best thing you can do is reach out to whoever runs the service you use and ask them to check their logs to see if there were recent attempts made by others to log into your account.

In cases where someone hacked your account, you can request additional security measures by visiting Account Security " Change Password " Set Up Two-Factor Authentication. Keep in mind that enabling 2FA requires time, effort, and patience on your part. As mentioned previously, turning off Find My iPhone does not guarantee 100% safety. Instead, it gives hackers fewer opportunities to guess your password.

You can also protect your phone with Face ID or Touch ID. Make sure you've updated your passcode, too. Lastly, you can perform a full factory reset by heading to Settings " General Management " Reset. Enter your passcode to confirm the action.

Once you've addressed the root causes of the issue, reboot your device and then sign in with your normal Apple ID. Next, visit Settings " Accounts " [Your Name] > Sign in Options and disable Remember Me under Auto Fill Personal Information. Head to Settings " Passwords & Security " Automatic Login and switch it off. You can also choose Never to enter your PIN automatically when prompted. Afterward, go ahead and reenable auto-updates for your Mail app. Restart your iPhone and check if there's been improvement.

If there’s one thing we can all agree upon it’s the fact that our phones have become extensions of ourselves—a constant reminder, and sometimes even source of information, about what’s going in this world.

But with so much happening every second, it shouldn't come as surprise when something goes wrong with them. From losing battery life to glitches in apps or services, iOS devices aren't perfect machines. And just like any other electronic device out there, they're prone to experiencing problems now and again. Here's how to deal with those issues if yours isn't responding to emails properly.

Why am I not receiving emails on my phone?

First things first, check whether your email app (Outlook, Gmail) actually allows for incoming messages from non-Apple servers. If it doesn't, you'll need to change the setting within Mail itself. For example, in Outlook 2021, go to Settings " Accounts " Email Options " Server then select Other. Make sure Allow less secure applications is unchecked. You should also make sure to add new accounts by clicking Add Account at the bottom of the screen. To test if these changes worked, try sending yourself another message via the same method.

You may find that Apple stops supporting older versions of its email service. When this happens, you won't be able to use most features such as Exchange ActiveSync, which enables syncing between certain email providers and iPhones. As a result, Apple will disable access to the server without warning. This is because Apple only supports newer protocols such as IMAP/POP3 and SMTP. Fortunately, users who still rely heavily on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 can continue using their old version until 2022. However, after July 1st next year support for Windows XP will end, meaning no more updates to security vulnerabilities. So it's best to upgrade soon before you lose access altogether!

In addition to disabling IMAP protocol, Apple also disables some useful features such as custom domains on iCloud Mail due to privacy concerns. By default, Apple blocks port 587 and requires authentication to send outgoing messages. In order to bypass this, open up Terminal and type in sudo nvram imap_tls=YES followed by restarting. Note that enabling TLS could cause slowdowns in performance. It's advisable to experiment with this feature before doing so.

Another possible explanation would be that your account has been suspended for suspicious activity. Check with your ISP or mobile carrier regarding the status of your payment methods and passwords. Typically, this problem occurs when someone uses multiple different logins to sign into various online accounts simultaneously. If you suspect fraudulent behavior, contact customer service immediately.

Finally, you may want to consider resetting your password since brute force attacks against password recovery questions are increasing. Go to Settings " Face ID & Passcode " Reset Password. Enter your current password twice and follow the prompts. Once done, head over to Settings " General " iTunes & App Store and tap Reset Network Preferences. Finally, delete both VPN configuration profiles in System Preferences " Internet Sharing. Now reboot your Mac and see if the issue persists.

Why is an email not coming through?

The good news is that there are plenty of potential solutions here. The most common reason behind the failure of delivery is the absence of subject line formatting. Sometimes, people simply forget to include the required details. Alternatively, there could be a glitch in the email address. Try entering your email manually to double-check everything works correctly. Also, check to see if the recipient name contains dashes (-). Many ISPs block email addresses containing dash symbols. There are several workarounds however, such as removing the hyphens and capitalizing letters instead.

Other times, emails get sent but fail to reach inboxes because of spam filters. Some internet companies offer free trials for their anti-spam tools while others charge monthly subscription fees. These companies often utilize sophisticated machine learning algorithms to flag potentially unwanted content, so ensure you've taken precautions beforehand.

Spammers usually target specific types of recipients. People with large numbers of followers or friends tend to attract more attention than average joe bloggers. Look for patterns among your contacts and take measures accordingly. Spam bots typically scan public posts looking for keywords and phrases used frequently by spammers. Don't worry though, there are many ways to protect yourself from phishing scams too.

It's also important to note that many spamming schemes involve impersonating popular websites or brands. Hackers commonly create spoofed emails pretending to be from social media platforms or banks. They ask victims to click a link leading to malicious software installations. Therefore, never enter personal data into unsolicited emails. Instead, always look for authentic links provided by official sources.

Lastly, there's the possibility of malware infection. Malware refers to viruses and other harmful programs designed specifically to damage computers, networks, and smartphones. Most modern antivirus suites are equipped to detect and remove malicious code automatically. But if you don't trust third party scanners, download reputable antivirus apps directly from trusted developers.

Why are some of my emails not coming through?

This is probably caused by low bandwidth usage. Emails require higher amounts of data compared to texts and voice calls. Unfortunately, many internet plans today limit data speeds to avoid network congestion during peak hours. Although unlimited packages exist, users are advised to switch off automatic downloads. Otherwise, excessive downloading of attachments could lead to slowed connections. Moreover, if you live in a remote area, chances are high that your provider offers limited coverage.

To resolve this, visit Settings " Cellular " Mobile Data Connection and turn cellular data OFF. Next, enable Wi-Fi Sync under Cellular Data Options. While you're at it, set Automatic Downloads to Off so you don't accidentally save anything sensitive onto your smartphone. Lastly, disable Push Messages under Cellular Data Options to prevent duplicate notifications.

As mentioned earlier, some messages get blocked by spam filters. This means they never made it past the sender's junk folder. Luckily, there are numerous ways to combat this dilemma. Firstly, you can whitelist particular email addresses and folders so they bypass filtering systems. Secondly, you can try adding text such as [SPAM] or similar to the subject line. Thirdly, unsubscribe to newsletters which contain lots of ads. Fourthly, filter out promotional emails by creating a new filter with the words SPAM OR JUNK in the search field.

How do you fix emails that are not coming through?

One way to solve recurring connectivity issues is to update your router firmware. After updating, reconnect to the internet and wait around 10 minutes for the connection to stabilize. Then, start checking for new emails. Another option involves resetting the modem by pressing buttons on either side. Afterwards, disconnect power cables from wall sockets for 30 seconds then connect them back to the router. Ensure you plug the power cord into the proper socket otherwise the process won't complete successfully. Wait for 15 minutes, then attempt connecting once more.

Sometimes, a simple toggle button fixes the problem. Head to Settings " Cellular " Cellular Data Options " Auto Retain Mode. Toggle Airplane mode ON/OFF depending on your preference. Lastly, clear the cache and temporary files located in Safari browser. Press Cmd + A to bring up bookmark manager then choose Empty Caches. Restart your device afterward.

Afterwards, uninstall problematic apps. Head over to Settings " Apps & Notifications " See All Xxx Menu Items and locate the app causing trouble. Tap Remove App. If it appears repeatedly, repeat this step until you find the culprit. You can also install alternative browsers such as Opera Mini or Dolphin Browser. Both allow faster browsing experience plus extra functionality.

Some email clients, such as Thunderbird, provide a troubleshooting guide. Visit Help " Troubleshooting Information if needed.

Your iPhone is capable of performing diagnostics tests. Simply hold down Power button and keep holding until slide to power off slider appears. Keep holding the Home button till Slide to Lock Screen options appear. Hold down both keys until Recovery Mode menu displays. Select DFU Restore Downloader and let it run for 20 minutes. Afterwards, restore your device normally.

Last resort, perform factory resets. Go to Settings " General Management " Erase All Content and Settings " Factory Resets. Follow onscreen instructions to finalize the procedure. Remember to backup your keychain and photos before restoring your device.

Unfortunately, there aren't many options left to help fix intermittent connectivity issues. Your last resort is contacting your wireless provider. Hopefully, they can assist you further.

Don't fret if your email woes persist for months. Eventually, you'll figure out the solution. Meanwhile, enjoy peace of mind knowing you're safe from hackers thanks to robust encryption techniques employed by Apple products.
