With this in mind, we've put together some tips about getting started with LinkedIn Learning. 

As well as offering paid subscriptions to hundreds of online training programs, LinkedIn also offers users the chance to subscribe to individual courses from their own account – they're often referred to as 'Lynda' after one of the most popular course providers. The company's name comes from the fact that many of these courses were originally created by former Microsoft employees who left the software giant under acrimonious circumstances. 

If you already have a LinkedIn Premium subscription, then you will be able to sign into LinkedIn Learning using your existing username and password. However, if you don’t yet have a LinkedIn Premium membership, you'll have to make sure you have a valid email address associated with your LinkedIn account before proceeding any further. Do I need LinkedIn premium to access learning?

No, you don't actually need a LinkedIn Premium subscription to access Lynda. While each course requires a separate payment method, none of the courses require a monthly fee. Instead, they typically cost between $9 -$20 per month depending upon the length of time you want to study. Additionally, while some courses allow students to download PDF files of lessons directly onto their devices, others must be accessed through the web browser. As such, those without a suitable internet connection might find themselves unable to complete certain tasks related to the course. 

However, even though you won't need a LinkedIn Premium subscription to access Lynda, you probably still want it to go ahead and purchase one anyway. Why? Well, because while LinkedIn isn't known for being particularly generous when it comes to giving away promotional codes, there are times when you can earn discounts off your next purchase. For example, if you buy two months worth of Lynda credit at once, you could potentially save yourself half of the price!

There's also another reason why you might want to consider buying a LinkedIn Premium account. It gives you access to additional features and tools, such as the ability to send emails, track your activity, set reminders, create groups, and more. So, aside from just making sense financially, it might also help you stay organized and productive throughout your studies.

The bottom line here is that no matter what level of commitment you plan on making towards your career development, having a LinkedIn account is going to give you far greater opportunities than simply logging into Lynda. Yes, unfortunately. There are currently three major limitations preventing Lynda from being fully accessible from your mobile device. First, you cannot access Lynda courses on your device unless you have a laptop with a desktop version of Google Chrome installed. Second, you cannot access Lynda courses on mobile devices running iOS 9 or lower. Third, you cannot access Lynda courses on your mobile device if you have disabled third party cookies.

Finally, if you're experiencing difficulty viewing Lynda courses on mobile, you may wish to disable your ad blocker temporarily. Doing so should resolve your issue.

How do I cancel my LinkedIn Learning subscription?

It's easy to unsubscribe from Lynda. All you need to do is head to your Account Settings page and click Manage Subscriptions. If you prefer watching instructional videos instead of reading articles, then LinkedIn Learning might be right for you. You can view video lessons on any device with a browser—including Android phones or iPhones. And there’s no limit to how many times you can watch each lesson.

The only thing you must remember is that you need to sign into LinkedIn first before viewing the content. If you already signed in while using the app, go ahead and log out, click “Sign In" at the top left corner of the screen, and enter your password again. Then hit "Logout." When you open it back up, you should see a button labeled "New Content Library" under your name. Clicking that will take you directly to the Learning section of your account. Here you'll find all kinds of content from different categories like Business & Careers, Creative Skillset, Sales & Marketing, etc.

To make things even easier, you can also create playlists by clicking the three dots next to the search bar at the top-right corner of your screen. From here, select Playlist > Create New List. Give it a title, then add your desired course titles to the list. This way, you can keep track of which ones you've watched and which ones you haven't yet seen.

Once you've created your playlist, just head over to the Learn tab (underneath the header) and start playing! To finish off, you can save your favorite lessons to a favorites folder within your playlists, making sure they’re saved as individual files rather than saved inside the playlist itself so you can still download them later.

How do I get my LinkedIn URL from the app?

While browsing LinkedIn, you probably noticed a link at the bottom of every article saying “Click to View Linked Article.” What does that mean exactly? It means you can get your own personalized URL whenever you publish anything online. Just copy and paste your unique URL into another website, blog post, email signature, social media page, or whatever else you'd like to share it with others. For example, mine looks like this:

Now that you have your own unique URL, let's talk about how to use it to connect with other people who could benefit from seeing your work. First, go to the LinkedIn Profile Manager tool. Head to your profile settings, scroll down until you reach Personal Website Settings, and click Edit Your Site. Next, type in your custom URL, and you're good to go! Now you can update your site and share your LinkedIn profile everywhere you need to without having to worry about changing links manually.

Also, if you’d like to share a specific piece of information that isn’t necessarily related to your job or career, you can embed your LinkedIn URL anywhere you would normally put a link. You can either include the entire URL or shorten it down to look similar to the shortened version below. Either way, it’ll allow anyone visiting your page to jump straight to the relevant resource.

How do I get my LinkedIn URL on my mobile resume?

In addition to sharing your LinkedIn URLs, you can choose to display it on your smartphone in order to give potential employers a glimpse of your experience. Once you’ve opened the LinkedIn app on your phone, tap the gear icon at the top right corner of the screen. Select Account Preferences, and turn on Allow Mobile Resume. That’s it! Now anytime you upload your resume to a service like Monster, Career Builder, Indeed, Glassdoor, or wherever else, you can simply point their app to your LinkedIn profile.

How do you send someone your LinkedIn profile?

One final option you have to consider is sending someone your LinkedIn profile via email. While you won’t always want to do this, it comes in handy during certain situations. Let’s say you’re trying to impress a prospective employer or client, for instance. Or maybe you want to recommend someone to join your network who hasn’t been introduced to everyone else. Whatever the case, you can quickly attach your profile to the message so that whoever receives it can read everything you wrote about yourself. All you have to do is follow these steps:

Open up the compose window.

Head to File " Attach Files.

Choose Upload Files.

Select Browse to browse for the file you wish to attach to the message.

Then, once you locate the file, click Open to attach it to your message.

Note: If you receive an error stating that your file size exceeds the maximum file size allowed, try uploading smaller versions of the same image file.

When you're ready, press Send and wait for the recipient to respond. They may ask for additional details, such as company names, contact info, and so forth. So long as those pieces of information match up perfectly, nobody can really tell whether or not the person was sent your full LinkedIn profile.

This should bring you to the Sign In page where you enter your email address and password before being redirected to the Profile & Education section of the portal. Here, you’ll be able to view your entire educational history as well as edit certain details relating to your profile.

You’re also welcome to upload documents related to your studies and certification certifications so that everyone looking at your profile knows exactly what qualifications you hold. However, please note that uploading documents containing sensitive information such as social security numbers or bank routing codes is strictly forbidden. Once you’ve finished creating your account, you’ll receive a confirmation message advising you to activate your account within 30 minutes.

Once activated, you can browse LinkedIn Learning’s extensive catalog of courses ranging from various topics including Accounting, Business Management, Computer Programming, Data Science, Engineering, Finance, Marketing, Personal Development, Productivity, Sales, and Writing Skills. Each course features interactive examples, video lessons, quizzes, practice tests, and discussion forums where students can interact with each other and ask questions.

As mentioned earlier, if you prefer to learn offline instead of taking classes online, you can easily export your courses to PDF format. Simply select the Download Courses option under the Browse tab, followed by selecting Export Courses to PDF. To ensure compatibility between your device and the file type selected, you must first enable Adobe Acrobat Reader on your phone. Then, once downloaded, you can open the document in Acrobat Reader for iOS or Android devices.

Another way to save time and avoid downloading multiple files is to use the LinkedIn Learning Library Card feature. When logged into your LinkedIn account, you can select the Library Card icon next to your name in the upper left hand corner of the home feed. From here, you can search for courses that interest you and preview the ones you wish to enroll in using your laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

How do I add my LinkedIn Learning certificate to my library account?

There are two methods you can follow to link your LinkedIn Learning certificate to your account. Both require you to log in to your LinkedIn profile and navigate to your Account Settings page. On the left side menu bar, you’ll see the Manage My Certificates dropdown list. Clicking on this opens another window showing you a list of all your certificates along with the total amount of points earned per category.

From here, you can either scroll down until you come across the Learn With LinkedIn Learning Certificate item or highlight the certificate and click Add Certificate. After clicking OK, you should immediately receive an alert informing you that your certificate has been added to your account and providing you with instructions on how to redeem your credits.

When it comes to adding your certificate to your library account, there’s actually two options depending on whether you want to store the program locally on your device or transfer it to Dropbox.

First, if you plan to store your certificate locally, you can tap Open Location inside the notification box provided and copy/paste the URL given into your browser. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the certificate link into your favorite cloud storage tool. For example, you can paste the code into Apple iCloud Drive or Microsoft OneDrive.

On the other hand, if you want to move your certificate to Dropbox, you can head over to the bottom navigation bar and locate the Learn More About Your Credentials option. There, you can toggle between viewing your certificates and managing your certificates. By tapping View All Certificates, you can then import your LinkedIn Learning certificate into your local library by copying and pasting the link into your web browser.

Finally, you should remember to update your LinkedIn Learning certificate whenever changes occur. Whenever you complete a lesson and pass a quiz, you’ll automatically receive credit toward your goal. So, if you decide to cancel your subscription after completing the final step of a course, you won’t lose anything. Just log back into your account and refresh the page to confirm that your progress hasn’t been erased.

Can you connect LinkedIn Learning to LinkedIn?

Yes! As long as you have both accounts created, you should be able to sync your data seamlessly. From your main LinkedIn profile page, hover over the Connected Profiles heading in the sidebar and click Linked Accounts. Now, you’ll have to agree to terms and conditions and grant permission to allow LinkedIn to connect your accounts together.

Afterward, LinkedIn will give you an authorization code that you can input during the process. Once approved, you’ll end up seeing a pop-up confirming the connection. Next, you can review your connected profiles by clicking the arrow next to the header to expand the menu and view a full list of activities shared between both platforms.

Do you need a LinkedIn account to use LinkedIn Learning?

No. Anyone can sign up for LinkedIn Learning without needing a separate account. Although, if you have a LinkedIn profile, you’ll likely benefit from having an active account. Not only does connecting your accounts offer additional benefits such as syncing contacts, events, and messages across both platforms, but it’s also easier to track your progress through your Learning Paths.
