How do I resize a photo for email on my phone?

How do I resize a photo for email on my phone?

Your smartphone's built-in email app doesn't have an easy option to resizing your pics right inside it. But that doesn't mean there aren't workarounds! Here are some tips and tricks to help you get around this problem.

If you're looking to quickly shrink down photos sent by other people so they won't take up too much space in your inbox, we've got good news -- you don't actually need any extra apps (or even computers) at all.

There are two main methods available when dealing with sending large files via email. The first involves using your device's gallery tool to edit your picture directly after taking it. And while the second method requires more time, it also has one key advantage over the first: It allows you to save new versions of your pictures without needing to worry about them being overwritten or deleted from your storage. Let's dive into both options below.

How do I resize a photo on my phone?

You could try out these steps to see which works best for you. To begin, open your default email program and select "Send Photo." After selecting your desired file, tap the three dots next to the attachment button. Then choose either "Scale" or "Crop," depending on whether you want to enlarge or decrease the dimensions of your picture.

When choosing "Scale," your selected picture will appear as a small thumbnail preview within the window. Once you decide what you think looks better, tap the checkmark icon in the bottom left corner. From here, just drag the corners inward or outward until you reach the point where you'd like the final product to look. In order to make sure you didn't accidentally delete anything, press the circle icon located along the top edge of the screen. When you release, a pop-up notification should appear letting you know that your changes were successful. If you ever need to return to your original version, simply repeat the process again.

Alternatively, if you chose "Cropping," then the same exact procedure applies. Simply move the edges until you find something suitable, then hit the checkmark icon in the lower left corner. Your cropped version of the pic should now show up in its full glory. As always, keep in mind that this isn't ideal because you'll lose quality during the cropping process. For example, a blurry background would become sharpened into oblivion.

Note: Depending on how many photos you plan on shrinking/enlarging, it may take awhile to complete each task.

However, if you don't want to wait for anything to finish, you can also start editing immediately after capturing the photo. Just go through the regular motions described above but instead of tapping the checkbox, hold down the circular icon until a prompt appears asking if you want to scale or crop.

How do I reduce the size of a photo on my phone?

In case you only wanted to chop off parts of the picture rather than expanding its overall dimensions, this solution might be easier for you. Unfortunately, there's no official Google Play Store app for doing this, so you'll need to download another app called Image Resize & Crop Pro ($0.99). With this application installed, you can easily adjust every single aspect of your photos' resolution. There are plenty of different options ranging from 1x to 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 13x, 16x, 20x, 25x, 32x, 50x, 64x, 128x, 256x, 512x, 1024x, 2048x, etc.

To apply such adjustments, head back to your previously saved attachments page and long-press on whatever picture you wish to modify. A menu bar consisting of various icons including "resize," "crop," "rotate," "mirror," and "flip" should appear. Choose whichever item fits your needs based upon the type of edits you intend to perform. For instance, if you want to zoom in on part of the shot, select "Resize" followed by "+1X". Or perhaps you want to extend the height of the photo, go ahead and pick "Size +2X". Finally, if you want to rotate the picture 90 degrees clockwise, select "Rotate Right."

Once you've made your choice, just click anywhere outside of the editor area and let the action run its course. Afterwards, feel free to continue saving copies of your edited photos whenever necessary.

As mentioned earlier, though, this approach comes with several caveats. Namely, since you're working with smaller resolutions, you risk losing detail when zooming in. Also, consider that this app tends to strip away EXIF metadata, meaning most of those cool details associated with individual shots won't be accessible anymore. Lastly, remember that this app is designed solely for personal usage. So if you intend to share someone else's picture(s), stick to the aforementioned solutions.

For additional context, you should read our guide detailing how to convert a video file into an animated GIF. Basically, you'll be applying similar techniques to create tiny thumbnails that act as previews for your future pictures. We recommend creating a folder specifically dedicated to holding all of your newly modified images. That way, you can skip the hassle of having to sort through tons of unwanted content later.

What is the easiest way to resize photos?

We fully understand why you'd prefer to avoid downloading complicated software to accomplish seemingly simple tasks like this. Luckily, there are still other less invasive options you can explore. One great way to do this is by utilizing your device's internal camera roll. By opening Settings& Storage Access, you can switch Camera Upload to On. Now, when you capture a picture via your device's standard interface, it automatically saves itself onto your device's system memory. Anytime you want to view this particular photo, you can pull up your gallery app and browse through everything stored therein.

Next, swipe downwards on your screen once you spot what you're interested in modifying. At the very end of the list, you should notice an envelope icon surrounded by a dotted border. Tap this icon to access your entire library of pictures. Once in the grid view, scroll horizontally across until you locate the picture you want to resize. Long-click on it and then drag upwards or downwards until you've reached the desired size. Release your finger once the proper proportions have been achieved.

Another alternative is to upload your photo straight to Instagram. Within the mobile app, navigate to the Photos section and search for your desired image. Hit the arrowhead symbol situated near the upper right corner of the post box, and choose Save Original. Next, head to your desktop browser and sign in to Instagram. Click the magnifying glass icon located at the top of the web portal. Select "Edit Photo" under the dropdown menu labeled "Upload New Picture." Browse through your computer's files and folders until you find the photo you want to attach. Lastly, add a caption and tag friends who you want to receive notifications regarding your creation.

You've taken some great shots with your smartphone and want to share them with friends, but you're running out of space. Or maybe you have a few pics from vacation that are simply too big to upload online. The native Android email app doesn't let you enlarge your photos. If you want to fix this problem, there's plenty more than one solution available.

Here we'll explore how to shrink down those high resolution photos so they fit within the limits of MMS messages -- i.e., SMS text messaging (SMS) rather than emails. We will also discuss what happens when you try to attach such images as attachments in Gmail.

First off, here are all the methods you should know about resizing an image to make it smaller. Then we'll take a look at why resizing isn't possible in Google Photos yet. Finally, we'll show you how to turn any image into a tiny thumbnail using nothing but free tools. Let's get started!

Note: All screenshots were captured on stock version 7.1.2 Nougat of Samsung Galaxy S7.

How do I resize a photo to send via email?

There are three main methods you can use to resize your photos to send through email. First up is cropping, which involves taking certain elements out of an image while leaving others untouched. Next, you might consider adjusting each individual color channel separately. Lastly, you could even scale the entire image. Here's what these different options mean to you.

Cropping allows you to remove unwanted portions of an image without altering its aspect ratio. It works best with square images. To start cropping, open your desired picture in the default gallery app. Go to Menu " Edit Options " Crop. In the next screen, drag the green handles along the sides until you reach your preferred dimensions. Once done, tap the checkmark icon in the top right corner. From now on, whenever you select an image to share, it will automatically adjust to your custom dimensions.

This method may work well with landscape images, though it won't necessarily preserve their original proportions. For instance, say you took four separate photos side by side. Each consists of two people standing face to face. One person has her arms extended outward like wings and she appears much larger than her companion who stands closer to the lens. Cropping would likely cut off parts of the latter's body.

It's better to split these images into several sections and then combine them together after cropping. To achieve that, go back to Settings " Compression and choose either Apply compression to whole file or Apply compression individually based on selection. Now pick Split Image into pieces instead of Crop. Select the first piece and move the slider under Adjust Aspect Ratio until you find the perfect width for both individuals. Repeat this process for every other section. When you finish, head over to Menu " Share " Combine Images and follow the same steps above.

If you only want to crop part of an image vertically or horizontally, hold down anywhere inside the frame until small black dots pop up around the area you wish to keep. Drag left or right to grab the new borders. Alternatively, press and hold Center button to set specific areas to remain unchanged.

Adjusting colors channels means changing the brightness levels of red, blue, and green channels independently. So for example, you can lower the saturation of blues and increase the greens. And vice versa. This approach is good if you intend to send a series of very similar shots because you can fine tune each subject's appearance. Start by opening the image in the default gallery app. On the following menu page, hit the cogwheel icon in the upper right corner followed by Color adjustment. Choose your preferred option from the dropdown menus below.

Lastly, scaling adjusts the overall size of the image without affecting anything else. Simply pinch inward or outward on the preview pane to zoom in or out, respectively. Scaling is helpful if you plan to transfer images between devices with varying resolutions. Just remember that it alters the actual pixel count of the resulting image.

Now that you understand the basics, let's see whether shrinking images is possible in Google Photos. Keep reading to learn more...

How do I reduce size of photos to send by email?

With many phones nowadays sporting 1080p screens, images shot in full HD tend to be quite sizable. They often exceed 2MB per megapixel. That's why sending a single still can quickly fill up your mobile data allowance. Fortunately, there are various ways to compress images so that they don't occupy too much room in your inbox.

Most efficient is probably JPEG 2000 compression. It's supported by Apple, Microsoft, Adobe Systems Incorporated, Nokia, LG Electronics, Qualcomm, HTC Corporation, Sony Mobile, Motorola Mobility, Pantech, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Alcatel-Lucent, BlackBerry Limited, Sprint Corp., T-Mobile USA, Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Vodafone Group Plc, Orange France, Deutsche Telekom AG, Swisscom AG, TIM Switzerland, KDDI Corporation, SoftBank Mobile Corp., China Unicom, and Ooredoo Networks.

To apply it, open your chosen image in whatever tool supports JPEG2000 files. Make sure it uses the most advanced encoding scheme. Hit Save As and specify another location where you'd prefer to save the result. Now switch to Gallery mode and scroll over to the bottom row of icons. Find the Camera Roll entry and long-press it. A popup window will appear. Tap Set Filters and Effects and navigate to Format " JPEG 2000. With your device volume keys already pressed, tap OK. Wait till the job completes and exit the app.

As a last resort, you can always rely on Google Drive. There are apps designed specifically to help you create compressed versions of your favorite photographs. Some examples include Aviary Photo Editor [No Longer Available] and TinyPixlr Touch Up Plus Free. But since we're trying to avoid uploading our creations to cloud storage services, the simplest thing to do is just to shoot fewer pictures in the future. After all, nobody likes wasting time waiting for things to load.

How do I email a photo that is too large?

In case you accidentally snapped some really huge images, don't fret! Thankfully, you can easily bypass the issue by creating a low quality copy of any oversized pic. Take advantage of the built-in functionality offered in almost every modern digital camera. It enables users to capture additional shots during normal shooting sessions, thus enabling them to pick the best ones later on. This feature is usually referred to as Live View.

Just launch the live view function and snap away. Later on, you can delete the extra copies. However, note that doing so will affect the final quality of your originals. Also, bear in mind that your phone needs enough memory to store both regular and spare shots. Otherwise, the system will discard the extras.

What is the way to resize an image?

Unfortunately, none of the aforementioned solutions offer easy ways to convert videos into miniature sizes. The closest alternative comes from YouTube. Instead of downloading MP4s, viewers can download GIFs that depict thumbnails of short clips. By visiting this site once, you can instantly generate video previews of virtually any length. No matter how lengthy they happen to be, the end product turns out crisp and clear.

Once finished, click Download Video Frame to obtain the Gif. Copy it onto your desktop computer and paste it into Photoshop Elements. Use Filter " Enhance " Deflate Layer Mask to further decrease the size of the clip. Remember to restore the mask layer's opacity to 100 percent. Click File " Export " Create New Document to export your modified frames as PNG files.

That said, if you want to stick with videos, MediaMonkey Player offers a nifty trick. Open the program, go to Tools " Resize Videos & Photos. Under Preset, choose Scale Down. Change Width to 50% and Height to 25%. Slide Minimize Window to On, then play your file. Your video will display in a miniaturized form, but it will still consume less bandwidth.

Don't forget that if you're looking for something quick and simple, Google Chrome can sometimes come to the rescue. Try dragging and dropping a video link from the address bar onto the browser's toolbar. Doing so opens the embedding box directly in the browser tab itself. Right beneath it, you'll spot a little arrowhead pointing downwards. Click it to reveal a plethora of buttons related to media playback. Among them, you'll notice Play/Pause, Full Screen, Enter Picture Mode, and Show Captions.

Keep scrolling till you encounter the smallest of icons labeled Reduce Size. Beneath that lies the option to Embed HTML5 Video. If you haven't tried this extension recently, give it a spin. The results aren't guaranteed, however.

If you're looking for an easy way to shrink down that vacation pic so it'll fit into your boss's mailbox, this article is exactly what you need. We've got three different methods for altering your image sizes and sending them via e-mail -- first up, we show you how to trim off excess pixels using the built-in Camera app. Then, let's look at two more options based around cropping your pictures (or saving space) and then resizing them with apps like Instagram. Finally, we offer some tips about reducing file size when uploading online through Google Drive.

How do I reduce the size of a photo for email on Android?

You have several options available to you if you want to quickly cut out parts of an otherwise large image. The simplest method involves opening up the default stock Gmail app on your smartphone and tapping the attachment icon next to any message thread. From there, tap "Camera" under "Take Photo & Video." Your device will automatically take a shot of whatever's currently open. If you'd rather capture something yourself, pull up the Settings menu by swiping from right to left along the bottom edge of your screen. Choose "Settings," scroll down until you see "General Management," select it and choose "Gesture Recognition." Slide either option labeled "Recognize Gestures While Typing" to On. Now whenever you type "a/c" while viewing your inbox, your phone should start taking shots as soon as possible. Once one has been captured, you can view it within your gallery, edit its properties and even delete it outright.

A similar process applies to video files too. Open up your mail client, find the same "Attach Media" button mentioned above and hit that instead of "Camera." Again, once you've taken a shot, your phone may prompt you to enable location services, which are necessary for snapping videos. When prompted, slide "Location Services" to ON. Afterward, you can begin shooting new clips without having to worry about finding your phone again later.

Unfortunately, these features aren't enabled by default everywhere. For instance, Apple Mail users who try to utilize iOS' integrated digital zoom feature will only get a blurry mess due to restrictions placed upon developers by Apple. As such, most people probably won't benefit much from trying to squeeze a larger version of their pics onto a mobile platform. Still, it never hurts to give it a go!

How do I reduce the MB size of a photo on Android?

When dealing with low-quality photos, sometimes it helps to just shave off quality elements. To do that, you can simply adjust your camera's ISO setting. That said, you can also accomplish the same thing using software. Let's say you took a great picture but would still prefer to save storage space. Instead of wasting megabytes on high-resolution images, why not compress those pictures down and store them on your hard drive? Here's how to achieve that goal easily.

First things first, ensure you have downloaded and installed both Google Photos and Google+ to your smartphone (if you don't already). Next, download Snapseed for free from Google Play Store [No Longer Available] and launch Google+. In the upper corner of the app, click +, select "Edit Images," browse to where you saved your original file and upload it. Hit the blue circle beside the preview thumbnail and drag inward to decrease the size of the resulting image. A little tip here: you can actually increase resolution by doing this; however, keep in mind that you might end up losing details because of the compression.

Next, head back over to Google+, locate your newly reduced image and click Edit in the top right hand corner. Select "Resize Image" beneath the "More Actions" header. Underneath the "Size" dropdown menu, select "Smaller Size." You'll now have access to a set of pre-installed filters that can help transform your photos in seconds. Pick whichever suits best and proceed accordingly. Lastly, after you finish making edits, press OK, wait for the results to appear and voila! Your file was shrunken down significantly. Note that the final product will vary depending on the amount of detail present in each particular photo.

In regards to whether you actually want to preserve all the data contained in the original file, well...that depends entirely on what kind of content you intend to share. Sometimes, you can sacrifice quality for greater efficiency. But other times, you will definitely need to maintain higher resolutions. It really comes down to personal preference.

How do I make a picture smaller to send in an email?

As previously stated, you cannot directly modify file dimensions within the standard Android email application. Fortunately, there are plenty of apps dedicated to helping you create small versions of your photos. One popular choice is Pixlr Express. Install it for free on your Android device [Broken URL Removed]. Upon launching the app, you'll notice that it offers a vast library of tools designed specifically for image manipulation. Among these include functions like adjusting color balance, sharpening edges and adding sepia effects to certain areas.

To minimize the file size of your current image, tap the circular arrow located near the center of the main interface. Scroll downwards and select "Compress File." Afterwards, confirm the operation by selecting Apply. Browse back to your gallery and you should see a new image pop up alongside others. There's no real limit to the number of adjustments you can apply, though remember that every time you perform an action, you lose a bit of quality. Plus, some effects require additional storage space. So, if you plan on applying lots of changes to your photos, you should consider downloading another program capable of handling bigger tasks.

Another option is IrfanView, a free app that allows you to manipulate various types of media. With IrfanView installed on your phone, simply load up your original photo and navigate to Tools -" Resize / Crop. Press the green "+" symbol next to Width and Height and input values lower than what you originally used. Keep in mind that you can always undo these alterations by pressing Backspace. When done, hit Save and exit out of the app.

Finally, if you simply want to chop your photos down quickly, you could opt to install an app called TinyPNG. Download it for free and scan your desired photograph. Then, drag a slider towards the left side of the window to reduce the overall pixel count. Simply enter a numerical value and move forward. Additionally, you can add text to your image, scale it and even rotate it. All of these actions result in smaller sized outputted files.

How do you reduce the MB size of a photo?

Sometimes, you don't necessarily need to shrink down your photos further in order to maximize your internet bandwidth. Rather, you can often reduce the dimension of your files without sacrificing quality or functionality.

For example, you can upload your images straight to Google Drive by navigating to Menu > More Options > Uploads & Offers. Within the latter, you can check "Optimize Storage Space" and upload everything to cloud storage without ever worrying about it eating up extra gigabytes of RAM. And unlike many other platforms, you can upload unlimited amounts of data per month.

Alternatively, you can turn to an iPhone-specific service known as AirDroid Pro. This paid app ($5 per year) lets you transfer documents between devices over Wi-Fi. Moreover, you can stream music and movies from your computer to your smartphone. What makes AirDroid Pro unique is that it stores everything locally, meaning your data doesn't leave your home network.
