Will HubSpot beat Salesforce?

Salesforce recently announced plans to acquire HubSpot for $5.9 billion. Although the deal hasn't officially closed yet, both parties expect it to go through by early 2018. Based on preliminary estimates, analysts predict Salesforce will generate approximately $1 billion annually thanks to HubSpot's existing client base.

Since then he’s helped hundreds of entrepreneurs build their own businesses through his books, blog posts, webinars, and keynote speeches. He now works full time as CEO of HubSpot. Over the years, HubSpot has been acquired by several other tech firms including VMware, EMC and Cisco Systems before landing under current parent company Vista Equity Partners late last year. Today, HubSpot serves over 30 million small businesses worldwide, many of whom use some version of its technology.

So is HubSpot just yet another piece of trendy Silicon Valley startup fluff? Is it something that should be left to wither away like thousands of others? Or is there possibly enough here to justify the millions spent each month by big corporations (like Microsoft) looking to buy in? Here's why we think HubSpot is a worthwhile investment.

Is HubSpot a good marketing tool?

When people hear about HubSpot, most often they picture the type of person who would try to sell them the next shiny new gadget. But HubSpot isn't necessarily just a consumer facing website. While HubSpot certainly has plenty of features targeted towards consumers, its true power lies in helping B2B brands connect with those actually working in industries such as retail, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, etc., according to Michael Grego, director of strategic initiatives at HubSpot. For example, these types tend to move around a lot during normal days and don't always take the time to check their inboxes regularly. This reduces both time wasted waiting for responses and unproductive meetings. Meanwhile, executives can easily share documents across networks and collaborate on projects, especially since HubSpot integrates seamlessly with Google Drive and SharePoint.

In terms of automation, HubSpot excels too. When using this feature, marketers simply choose what stage of the funnel they want to capture data for. Then depending upon whether they're targeting warm leads, cold leads or previous buyers, they will receive customized push notifications whenever there's a relevant update. If they're talking to a lead currently in the buying cycle, say, the app will let them know when they have access to special deals or promotions. On top of this, HubSpot provides analytics tailored toward whichever part of the process they're focusing on. So those interested in purchasing could see metrics related to site traffic, social media interactions, newsletter opens, and conversion rates, among others. Those focused on nurturing relationships might see things like average number of touches per subscriber, lifetime value based on total revenue generated, and overall engagement rate. Either way, the goal of the tracking systems is to provide insights so executives can make informed decisions. These statistics can help determine future investments, allowing for less guesswork and more efficiency down the road.

Another key component to HubSpot's growth is the fact that it doesn't require much training. According to Gregor, anyone familiar with HTML code should be able to set up a basic account and start creating forms to collect user input. From there, they can begin building out their campaigns. Once again, HubSpot uses AI to automate certain processes. Instead of sending generic newsletters to subscribers, HubSpot recommends content that matches interests associated with their profiles. Plus, because HubSpot automatically tracks conversions, it suggests additional steps to increase chances of making a sale.

And finally, unlike traditional methods, HubSpot is capable of providing real-time feedback. After completing a survey, visitors can instantly view results right inside the application. Marketing professionals can also analyze trends based on collected data. As a result, they can quickly adjust tactics to improve results.

Is HubSpot marketing worth it?

While HubSpot may seem like a strange choice for a marketing budget, given the aforementioned benefits, it's hard to argue against its effectiveness. In fact, HubSpot has earned numerous accolades from industry leaders ranging from Forbes to Inc Magazine.

According to research firm Gartner, HubSpot ranked No. 1 in the U.S. for customer service quality in 2016. A recent report by Deloitte found that 84 percent of respondents believed HubSpot offered superior support compared to competitors. Additionally, HubSpot scored higher than 99% for uptime, security compliance, PCI certification, and HIPAA compliance.

On the flip side, HubSpot hasn't always had smooth sailing either. Back in 2012, two former high ranking officials accused HubSpot of fraudulently inflating revenues and artificially boosting stock prices. Later, the Securities & Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit alleging that HubSpot misrepresented earnings figures and failed to disclose accounting irregularities. However, despite these setbacks, HubSpot continues to grow steadily thanks largely to its dedication to innovation and continuous improvement.

One reason HubSpot remains popular amongst businesses today is due to its versatility. Unlike large enterprise solutions, HubSpot doesn't force users to rely solely upon prebuilt applications. Rather, they have the option to create custom apps tailored exactly to their needs. By utilizing customizable dashboards, marketing managers can monitor multiple sources at once. Also, with the ability to upload files, images, videos, audio clips, PDFs and presentations, HubSpot keeps marketing materials centralized in one spot rather than scattered throughout various locations.
